Teacher Information- Learners
This activity is for students enrolled in a high school biology class. They will vary in grade level, however a majority of the students will be freshmen or sophomores. You should have covered genetics and evolution before students will be able to understand the content of stem cells and their purpose.
The course does focus on California State Standards for genetics however this is not the main purpose of the activity. The students need to be able to show the following:
- Listening to others with Understanding and Empathy
- We want the students to be able to listen to varying view points through the PowerPoint presentations and become enlightened with differing ideas.
- Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations
- Taking what students already know about genetics and how stem cells can be converted to different types of cells.
- Using Search and Research Strategies
- Planning and Making Oral Presentations
- Evaluating Evidence or Claims
These are not standards and will be viewed and reflected on via the conclusion.
